Calcium ionophore is a commonly used Ionophone Antibiotic that increases intracellular Ca2+ in intact cells and forms stable 2:1 complexes with divalent cations. It acts as an uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation and inhibits mitochondrial ATPase activity. It can also induce Apototosis in mouse Lymphoma cell line S49. However, it is shown to block Apotosis in other systems such as when Interleukin-3 (IL-3) is withdrawn from IL-3 dependent cells. Supplied as dry powder.
