Planet-Safe Petri Dishes are made from polylactic acid (PLA), a biodegradable and compostable resin derived from a variety of non-GMO renewable resources. Ideal for growing bacteria, yeasts and molds. Offer excellent optical transparency and enable microscopic examination of cells while resisting organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones and hydrocarbons.
Engineered with a lower carbon footprint and 100% renewable resources to meet the needs of laboratories focusing on more Eco-friendly and sustainable practices. PLA bioresin is substantially more hydrophilic than petrochemical resins
such as polystryrene. This beneficial property allows a variety of anchorage-dependent eukaryotic cell species to grow in liquid culture on the petri dish surface without adding coatings such as ECM (extracellular matrices), proteines, collagen, fibronectin, poly-D-lysine, or specialty plasma gas treatments. Disposal of dishes is easy and environmentally responsible as they are commercially compostable. Supplied as 15/sleeve, 375 per case.
PLA has a lower softening temperature than polystyrene. Accordingly, autoclave-sterilized agar-containing culture medium should be cooled to 65°C when possible. Applications pouring above 65°C should test Planet-Safe Petri Dishes prior to use. After pouring media, dishes should remain undisturbed for 2-3 minutes before moving.
